DUANE MICHALS

Storytelling As Sequences

Duane Michals and his work embody the spirit of transcending the traditional limitations of photography: writing in the margins, creating sequences of photos through prints that depict various dilemmas of the human condition, and creating poetic effects from technical errors such as double exposure and motion blur.

“The most important things of our lives are philosophical. Are unseen, rather. My photographs are about questions. They are not about answers. I think photographs should provoke, should set up the question, the premise, and shouldn’t give the answer. And questions are usually philosophical.”

Crafted as an homage to Michals’ signature hand-writing style featuring inscriptions and stories within the margins, the Fallen Angel Sweatshirt reimagines titles from some of his most iconic works embroidered in different colors across the body and sleeves. This collaboration features the le PÈRE logo embroidered in his hand-writing placed playfully on the chest.
